A Synopsis on Resume heat map and its expectations

With technological advancements, the research also emerges with new ways of writing resume service and many more. The amazing fact now is that now it takes just 6 seconds only to get a new report. With this report a resume heat map is prepared and this is truly interesting.

Resume report, what is it?

The resume report informs that the employers or recruiters spend 80% of the resume time by viewing the data points. Many times applicants do not know the reason for not receiving a job interview, but recent researches shed light on their decision making behavior. It reveals that on average recruiters spend six seconds to consider fit or unfit candidates.

The recruiters see your name, current company, title, position start and ending dates, earlier company and title, previous position starting and ending dates and education. With time constraints, the resume heat map informs it becomes essential for each applicant to give pertinent information to the recruiters by creating a clear visual hierarchy resume. There is no need to include visuals that are distracting.

The resume heat map refers to the eye movements tracked of the recruiters while viewing resumes. This heat map shows only six seconds are spent on reviewing the work of your life. The biggest lesson from this is that your previous and current positions and education should offer an easy and clear viewing. This includes taking care of font size and also the white space.

What these results teach?

  • Recruiters just scan a resume, beginning with name, previous and current jobs, experience, and this means you need to highlight the positions with font enhancements.

  • Education was scanned next from your resume, it means your school and degree here should be prominent.

  • Other skills, social work, etc.? Such skills should be included for the next selection process: an interview or a second screen. These are better positioned at the resume bottom and ensure it does not take up much space.

If your resume is looking interesting, the scanning is done on the keywords relevant to position/profile, before inviting the candidate for an interview. It is also observed that the recruiter’s eye-tracking technology find professionally re-written resumes to be better than the unorganized resumes. The professional resumes are rightly formatted and have less data making them clearer.

What does this mean?

Candidates have to impress employers in very little time and this is the fact. The resume has only 6 seconds to get going to impress the recruiters. Resume heat map states it to keep:

  • Exactly to the point

  • Important keywords and relevant contents

  • Stress on accomplishments

  • Visually structured to be appealing, helps acquiring information easily

Formatting matters

Given six seconds, there is a need to focus on everything. Format does not imply you should go highlighting or keep bold facing.

Just maintaining regularity throughout the resume is enough. It should have same style and representation as it helps in easy reading.

Even giving tabular formatting appears perfectly structured. Maintain a spaced table in standard height to make your resume outstanding from the rest.
