Description: Our company was formed out of a long standing marine engineering firm with more than 30 years of government contracting experience. This significant support and history makes our company one that can prove its dependability, strength, and knowledge. We are primarily a marine engineering firm specializing in rotating machinery and naval hull, mechanical & electrical systems on commercial vessels, naval ships and submarines. We perform in-place repairs of critical shipboard rotating machinery such as motors, generators and turbines. We provide in-service engineering for most shipboard hull, mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems such as deck machinery, air conditioning, switchboards, and hydraulic systems.

Amee Bay is also expert at the complexities of installation support onboard vessels in an industrial environment. As with many engineering activities, our corporate experience and promise of future performance is embodied in our talented workforce. We have over 140 engineers, technicians and analysts with more than 1,500 years of combined technical knowledge that spans the entire range of propulsion, hull, mechanical, electrical and auxiliary systems found on board marine vessels and naval ships. Our personnel have expertise and capabilities comparable to Navy shipyard tiger teams and OEM technical agents.

Required Skills: The successful candidate must be able to: communicate, prospect, network, persuade, research, close deals, identify customer needs and challenges, develop in-depth market knowledge, develop an in-depth knowledge of Amee Bay’s service offerings and produce contract-winning bids and proposals.

Position Overview:
The Director of Business Development reports to the Vice President/Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the execution of roles, responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The Director of Business Development will use customer, market and company knowledge to develop, propose and update a corporate strategy, approved by the President/CEO, which drives Amee Bay’s growth, diversification and retention of existing business. As a senior manager at Amee Bay, the Director of Business Development must work closely and successfully with other senior managers to ensure resources are applied to achieve assigned business development objectives and results.

Responsibilities:
The primary role of the Director of Business Development will be to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, or other means of generating interest from potential clients. The Director of Business Development will plan persuasive approaches and pitches, teaming with other Amee Bay experts as appropriate, to convince potential clients to do business with us.

The Director of Business Development must develop a rapport with new clients and provide communications and support that will continually build the relationship. The Director of Business Development will be required to grow and retain existing client work by presenting new solutions and services to clients and providing capacity and capability growth recommendations to Amee Bay leadership for consideration.
The Director of Business Development will develop, maintain and revise Amee Bay’s strategic planning process, products and required actions. As part of this effort, the Director of Business Development will maintain the company’s pipeline of new and follow-on contract opportunities. This will require a thorough knowledge of the market, the capacity and capabilities of the company as well as those of our competitors.

Additional specific details of the Director of Business Development’s position include:
New Business Development
o Prospect for potential new clients and generate this contact into increased business.
o Cold call as appropriate within Amee Bay’s market and geographic areas to ensure a comprehensive and viable pipeline of contract opportunities.
o Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging a professional network.
o Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization.
o Research and build relationships with new clients.
o Set up meetings between client decision makers and Amee Bay leaders to expand relationship development.
o Plan approaches and pitches. Coordinate Amee Bay’s proposal development efforts to produce responses that speak to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
o Develop a price-to-win based on market research and analysis.
o Manage the company’s Non-Disclosure Agreement and Teaming Agreement processes to ensure timeliness, accuracy and maximum flexibility and success for Amee Bay’s pursuit of prime and subcontracting opportunities.
Client Retention
o Present new services and capacity information to clients to enhance existing relationships.
o Work with technical staff and other Amee Bay managers to communicate and meet customer needs.
o Arrange and participate in internal and external client and proposal debriefs.
Business Development Planning
o Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide Amee Bay management feedback and information on market and technical trends.
o Present to, and consult with, mid- and senior-level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, capabilities and geographic presence.
o Identify opportunities for teaming, services, and geographic presence that will lead to an increase in sales.
o Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Management and Research
o Prepare and conduct routine pipeline, proposal, business development and strategy planning and action meetings with senior company management.
o Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s pipeline management system.
o Work with technical and administrative staff to ensure that prerequisites, e.g., prequalification questionnaires or vendor list applications are completed in a timely manner.
o Present business development training and mentoring to operational managers and other Amee Bay staff.
o Research, develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Amee Bay’s personnel and their capabilities.
o Become expert in government contracting resources and opportunity databases to ensure potential opportunities are identified with sufficient lead-time to formulate and enact a winning teaming and proposal strategy.
Additional Requirements:
o US Citizen
o Active Secret Clearance (preferred)
o Must be able to pass a background check
Experience/Education:
o U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard Active Duty experience (preferred)
o Bachelor’s Degree (required) in a technical field (preferred)
o 15+ years’ experience in maritime industry operations or business development
o Formal business development experience (preferred)
o Proposal development and writing experience (required)
o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products
