Elevate your resume with relevant Resume hobbies and interests
Many job seekers have great difficulty in figuring out their interests and hobbies to list in the resume. In fact, many have doubts if this was essential to include. The inclusion of resume hobbies and interests is an amazing way of showing you are a good fit beyond the abilities and professional skills.
To include hobbies and interests
Writing a resume to land in an interview, you must be wishing that your resume looks impressive featuring your interests or hobbies. Is it relevant to that you are applying and if no, just do not mention your interests or hobbies.
The fact is that no recruiter will hire you based on your interest that you like fishing or travelling or even cooking. Unless it is a related area job and bear in mind this is not your profile in your Facebook. This is a resume that is informing the potential employer you are an appropriate fit for the job.
An applicant can include resume hobbies and interests helping to show the employer you are a good fit and have relevant professional level. For instance, if you are applying for a web developers post, the hobbies and interests that can present as a better pick up are:
Web development blogging, maintaining for non-profit group a website
Solving coding complex issues
Playing guitar, fishing and travel.
Blogging on published writings or a subject (based on the industry).
Activities revealing leadership (i.e. working for a nonprofit that is aimed at providing food for the hungry).
Anything revlevant to the job. You may use soft and hard skills to display to your employer you may be the right fit.
Irrelevant hobbies – (traveling, fishing, watching movies or cooking).
Anything relating to political associations
Dangerous (Base jumping, sword swallowing)
Controversial issues (A pro -abortion group member or have a gun rights advocate).
Exception – If your interests and hobbies are relevant, you may include. It is acceptable if you list a few interests outside the job profile as it reveals some personality and also adds human touch. Make an effort to identify appropriate resume hobbies and interests to lead with relevant something.
It is not a must that everyone realizes their relevant hobbies or interests. Thinking professionally about the interests or hobbies to fit in resume may not come to everyone’s find. If you are unable to identify, relax! It is fine.
Also remember, another very important point is that even if you have relevant resume hobbies and interests to include, keep it small and write it to the resume end. You may put 2-3 most relevant hobbies or interests. Avoid overcrowding or writing many words in this section. It is best when it is a small piece offering overall message conveying the employer, you are the right fit.
Keep your resume hobbies and interests relevant, place it at the end, label it properly, in 2-3 points and stay away from sensitive subjects.
