Position:

SQL Server Architect

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SQL Server Architect/DBA with a deep understanding of Oracle RDBMS to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining SQL Server databases while also possessing strong proficiency in Oracle RDBMS. This role requires not only technical expertise but also the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative database solutions that meet the organizations needs.

Overall Job Description:

A Database architect with a track record as a DBA who will be a member of the Architecture Team will need to work closely with the System/Virtualization Engineers and collaborate with other enterprise teams. The dual skill set of the candidate both on MS SQL Server and Oracle RDBMS will allow the candidate to help migrate to new versions of SQL Server as well as Oracle RDBMS and ensure the availability and optimization of the current databases. The candidate?s main focus is MS SQL Server and may occasionally work with the Oracle RDBMS database platform. The candidate will need to have experience in ETL processes and have knowledge of Amazon RDS for Microsoft SQL Server.

Professional Skills:

  • Good working knowledge of SSIS, SSRS (PowerBI knowledge is an asset)
  • In-depth understanding of SQL architecture; expert knowledge in SQL clustering and availability groups; good experience implementing operational automation through SQL tools and PowerShell
  • Prior experience with replication topologies and components; experience in both OLTP and Data warehousing environments; proficiency in using T-SQL, troubleshooting queries and stored procedures.
  • Previous experience with TDE encryption of databases as well as troubleshooting Kerberos issues; strong experience with Amazon SQL Server RDS (migration tasks is preferred); ability to provide coaching to developers.
  • Experience with cloud-based database solutions, such as Microsoft Azure SQL Database, Amazon SQL Server RDS, or Oracle Cloud.
  • Experience with high-availability SQL technologies.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and technologies, such as ETL processes and dimensional modelling.
  • Knowledge of other RDBMS platforms, such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, is a plus.

Activities (Proactive and Reactive):

  • Support SQL server applications
  • Supporting SQL Server components, including SSIS and SSRS
  • Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes.
  • Design and implement migration to Amazon RDS for Microsoft SQL Server
  • Develop and enforce database standards and best practices to ensure consistency across environments.
  • Collaborate with software developers and system administrators to optimize database schema, queries, and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and data integrity issues.
  • Perform database migrations, upgrades, and patches as needed, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum data integrity.
  • Design, implement and maintain database backup and recovery strategies to safeguard against data loss and minimize downtime in the event of system failures.
  • Monitor database performance and resource utilization, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact users.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and
  • troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server Architect/DBA, with a strong focus on database design, implementation, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in Oracle RDBMS, including database design, administration, and performance tuning.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server features and capabilities, including stored procedures, triggers, indexes, and query optimization techniques.
  • Experience with database migration, replication, and high availability solutions such as clustering and AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • Familiarity with database security best practices, including role-based access control, encryption, and auditing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to create comprehensive current state and future state solution architecture documents, detailing platforms, technologies, integration, and communication methods.
  • Effective communication with stakeholders at various levels to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Minimum three years of recent experience in SQL 2017/2019/2022
  • A university degree is preferred.
  • Experience with SQL server applications and supporting components, including SSIS and SSRS.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes.
  • Experience in mentor IT staff and database design
  • Experience in assessing and introducing new technologies to improve operation of database infrastructure.
  • Experience as a lead worker in a team of subject matter experts of varying capacities
  • Experience Amazon RDS for Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience as an Oracle RDBMS DBA on large deployments
  • Microsoft Certified: SQL Server certification(s) (e.g., MCSA, MCSE) or equivalent.
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification or equivalent is an asset.

Requirements:

  • EU citizenship.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; proficiency in any other European language is a plus.
