Purpose of the Role:

To provide accurate and timely financial data by maintaining the company?s financial records, with a focus on the unique needs of the construction industry. The Bookkeeper will support site costing, supplier reconciliations, and project-based accounting, contributing to sound financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record and reconcile all financial transactions (cashbooks, general ledger, journals).

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate coding to construction projects and cost centres.

  • Perform bank and supplier reconciliations on a monthly basis.

  • Process supplier invoices and subcontractor payments, ensuring compliance with construction contracts and retentions.

  • Track and manage job costing for construction projects.

  • Assist with preparation of management accounts and cash flow reports.

  • Process VAT returns, ensuring compliance with SARS regulations.

  • Assist in payroll processing for site and office staff.

  • Liaise with site managers and project teams to verify financial information.

  • Support the preparation of audit files and liaise with external auditors when required.

  • Maintain accurate financial records for all projects and company entities.

Qualifications Required:

  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics or Accounting.

  • Diploma or Certificate in Bookkeeping / Accounting (e.g., ICB, AAT, or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of construction accounting practices is a strong advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3?5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the construction or civil engineering sector.

  • Strong experience using accounting software (e.g., Pastel, Xero, BuildSmart, or Sage).

  • Familiarity with job costing, supplier retention processes, and construction contract terms.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.

  • Strong understanding of VAT, payroll, and SARS submissions.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with site personnel and management.

  • Discretion and integrity when handling confidential information.

  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Based at Conradie Group?s Cape Town office with possible visits to project sites.

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Some overtime may be required during month-end or audit periods.
