Mechanic - Bus Driver

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanic / Spare Bus Driver to join our school district’s transportation team. This dual-role position plays a vital part in ensuring the safety and reliability of our fleet while supporting student transportation as needed.

As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of school buses and other district vehicles to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. Your expertise will help keep our transportation system running smoothly and on schedule.

In your role as a Spare Bus Driver, you will step in to safely transport students on designated routes when regular drivers are unavailable. This requires a commitment to student safety, punctuality, and strong communication skills.

Assignment: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 4:00PM

Location: District Transportation Department

Wage: $38.78 per/hr. with a competitive benefits and pension package.  

Qualifications, Education and Experience include:

  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Successful completion of the B.C. Apprenticeship Program and a valid B.C. Trade Certification as an Automotive Technician, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Commercial Transport Mechanic, or equivalent
  • Minimum of one-year related experience at the journeyman level
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Valid B.C. Class 2 Driver’s License with an Air Brake Endorsement
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate
  • Current Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Competent in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this trade, including diagnostic equipment

Working Conditions

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
MUST HAVE:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering from an ABET Accredited University program is required
Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
12+ years’ experience in specialized discipline.
Experience designing and specifying HVAC and plumbing systems of various sizes and complexities
Professional Engineer License
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and building load simulation programs (IESVE and Carrier HAP preferred)
Understanding and application of building, energy, and mechanical/plumbing codes.
