Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Cloud Architect to lead our cloud strategy and drive the adoption of cloud technologies across the organization.

In this critical role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our cloud infrastructure and applications, ensuring scalability, security, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, security experts, and business stakeholders to define cloud architecture blueprints, establish best practices, and guide the migration and modernization of our existing systems.

As a thought leader in cloud computing, you will stay abreast of the latest industry trends and provide strategic recommendations to leverage cloud innovations for business advantage.

Responsibilities :

Define and develop the overall cloud strategy, architecture, and roadmap aligned with business objectives and technical requirements.

Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP (specify preferred platform if applicable).

Develop and maintain cloud architecture blueprints, standards, and best practices for infrastructure, application deployment, and data management.

Lead the migration of existing on-premise applications and infrastructure to the cloud, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.

Design and implement cloud-native architectures for new applications, leveraging services like containers (Docker, Kubernetes), serverless computing (Lambda, Azure Functions), and managed databases.

Define and implement security policies and controls in the cloud environment, working closely with the security team to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

Optimize cloud costs by implementing efficient resource utilization strategies, cost monitoring, and rightsizing of cloud services.

Design and implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for cloud infrastructure and applications.

Evaluate and recommend new cloud technologies and services to enhance our capabilities and drive innovation.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams on cloud best practices, architecture patterns, and cloud service adoption.

Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve cloud-related issues.

Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud architectures, processes, and procedures.

Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning for cloud environments.

Stay informed about industry trends, emerging cloud technologies, and regulatory requirements.

Contribute to the development of cloud governance frameworks and ensure adherence across the organization.

Lead proof-of-concept projects and technical evaluations of new cloud services and solutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Cloud Platforms: Deep understanding and hands-on experience (10-15 years) with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Architect-level certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect

Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect) are highly preferred.

Cloud Architecture Principles: Comprehensive knowledge of cloud architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices for scalability, reliability, security, and cost optimization.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, or Google Cloud Deployment Manager.

Networking: Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, security groups, load balancers, DNS, and hybrid connectivity options.

Security: In-depth knowledge of cloud security best practices, identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and compliance frameworks.

DevOps Practices: Familiarity with DevOps principles and practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure management.

Containerization & Orchestration: Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, ECS, GKE).

Serverless Computing: Understanding and experience with serverless computing models (Lambda, Azure Functions, Cloud Functions).

Database Technologies: Experience with various database technologies, including managed cloud database services (e.g., RDS, Azure SQL Database, Cloud SQL) and NoSQL databases.

Monitoring & Logging: Experience with cloud monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Cloud Logging).

Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.

Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure and application issues.

WHAT IT TAKES
To be Successful in this Role You Will Need:


• Students must have completed CMPT 1105, CMPT 1109 or CMPT 1209 by the end of the semester in which they are applying to work and received or expect to receive a B+ grade or higher.
• Must have a basic working knowledge of C++, MS Visual Studio, Windows, and Internet Explorer. Knowledge of Python is an asset.

Student Assistant, Computer Lab (Computer Science) assists students with learning software in their courses by providing peer tutoring, including helping to troubleshoot programs during scheduled labs. This software includes Visual Studio, C++, Python, as well as file management in Windows and Internet Explorer.

Responsibilities:

• Assist instructors and new students in the computer labs, at the New Westminster campus.

Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

• The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR
• The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR
• The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term

International students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

1. The international student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of 9 credits at Douglas College, throughout the Summer term; OR

2. The international student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of 3 credits in the Summer term, AND must have been enrolled in at least 9 credits for each of the preceding Fall and Winter terms; OR

3. The international student, if he/she is a new student to Douglas College as of the Winter term, must have been enrolled in full-time studies (a minimum of 9 credits for the Winter term) AND must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of 3 credits in the Summer term; OR

4. An international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C., is eligible to work at Douglas College only if he/she has a valid Study Permit.

With the notation - "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria." Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.

An original copy of a Social Insurance Number ( SIN ) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.

Role Overview

Reporting to the North America Regional Director Environment, the Regional Manager, Environmental Sciences is responsible for advancing our technical understanding of environmental challenges/opportunities and developing strategic plans that minimize risk across our assets while meeting compliance requirements, commitments with Indigenous Government Organizations, and performance targets.

The successful candidate will provide outstanding leadership, scientific knowledge and practical experience in environmental areas pertinent to mining. The Regional Manager, Environmental Sciences must be self-motivated, collaborate well across diverse teams, have strong organizational skills, and robust technical understanding of environmental disciplines. This role is crucial for advancing our environmental performance and sustainable mining practices.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

  • Provide leadership and technical expertise in the development and maintenance of robust monitoring programs that meet business needs, regulatory requirements and commitments
  • Technical review and direction on fulfilling reporting requirements internally and externally
  • Ensure annual budgeting and scheduling meet business commitments
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering their professional development and ensuring the team is functioning effectively to deliver environmental objectives
  • Supports required training and capacity building with Operations as required to effectively apply relevant guidelines, procedures, and standards.
  • Remains current on environmental issues that have the potential to impact Teck's reputation and sustainability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental-related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio.) preferred
  • 10+ years of experience providing leadership in environmental sciences, compliance, and risk management in mining or other natural resource industry
  • Well versed in provincial and federal legislation and regulatory requirements applicable to mining activities
  • Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communications and presentation skills in both formal and informal settings with the ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials, Indigenous groups, and communities of interest
  • Technical understanding of environmental sciences, risk evaluation, and compliance practices related to water quality/quantity, toxicology, fisheries, air quality, waste management, ecological or human health risk assessments, biodiversity, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with and build relationships with people at all levels of the organization to influence outcomes and manage conflict
  • Strong leadership and management skills including ability to manage a technically-diverse staff and consultants to effectively leverage skillsets and provide additional support where necessary
  • Motivated self-starter who can manage several projects simultaneously and adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% on average annually
  • High degree of critical thinking and analytical skills with strong technical writing skills and understanding of environmental disciplines
  • Deliver with a "fit-for-purpose" approach focusing on the key levers or inputs that have a material impact on positive outcomes and results

Pay Range: $147,000 - $182,000

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
