Expectations

Port Operator shall be goal oriented towards own unit and the company, act like a role model and actively share knowledge through mentoring, cooperation, training and support

Furthermore, the Port Operator shall adhere to and promote safety awareness and safe practices as a quality element of the department?s processes

The holder of the position shall follow relevant laws, company values and policies and comply with company governing documents. Deviation from standard rules and regulations, both external and internal, shall be discussed with and approved by manager up front.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor port operations and planning the turnaround of the arriving vessels
  • Ensure safe and fast and most cost-efficient port call for the vessels, including transhipment and barging arrangements
  • Ensure adequate relationship with port authorities, customers, terminals, surveyors, third party agents and barge-owners and other parties
  • Support marketing/chartering personnel and customers
  • Promote QHSE culture, including through active use of the company?s Quality Management System, event handling and risk management

Work tasks

  • Responsible for liaison stowage with Charterers and Ship Operation/vessel, when updated bookings received from Charterer or the company?s commercial department.
  • Handle cargo related reports to be provided Charterers for cargo booked by the company, when vessel is enroute to discharge ports.
  • In close cooperation with Operation Manager, prepare port rotation suggestion and send same to master and Ship Operator for approval
  • Monitoring of port activity & liaise with customers, terminal, vessel, surveyors, third party agents and barge-owners for optimal operations
  • Co-ordinate vessel husbandry duties with Port Agents
  • Inform Ship Operator with vessel?s movements and prospects
  • Advise port times to Ship Operator and prepare cargo documents
  • Collating of all cargo documents and port logs
  • Update ship?s files
  • Attend to other matters as assigned by superior
  • Promote and attend to QHSE matters in compliance with company?s Quality Management Systems (Docmap Documents), use of company?s non-conformance system (Docmap Observations), assessing risks, to strive for continuous improvement
  • Ensure that all files and systems are updated and ready for handover before relocation of team members, including leaving the company (relevant electronic systems, hard copy files and tasks in Docmap

Local Supplements

Tasks ? within the company?s assigned operational area

  • Continues operations development and knowledge of the land side infrastructure of ports, any draft and marine service constraints and max draft versus tidal ranges

Secondary Tasks

Upon request, assist different departments with various assignments.

Cover the tasks of Operation Manager during absence.

Qualifications (examples)

? Bachelor Degree within shipping or equivalent studies/practice

? 3-5 years? relevant experience

? Master the English language

? Ability to conclude work task on time and within scope
