BUILDING MATERIALS BUYER

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated professional to join our Procurement team as a Building Materials Buyer. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the procurement of building materials and commodity items like plywood, wood, steel and construction material

Key responsibilities include the following:

• Procure and source building materials internationally.
• Build strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers (locally and internationally).
• Problem solving and claim resolution
• Negotiation of pricing and settlement discounts
• Identify product opportunities in new and existing markets

Experience and skills:

• Procurement knowledge: understanding of procurement principles, processes and best practices. Understanding of pricing, claims and value chains.
• Industry experience: Familiarity with building materials, construction industry trends and market dynamics.
• Supply chain management: knowledge of supply chain operations, logistics and inventory management.
• Export knowledge: previous experience working in an export environment and a good working knowledge of incoterms.
• Negotiation and Communication: Effective communication and negotiation skills to deal with suppliers (payment terms, pricing deals, settlement discounts and rebates)
• Proficiency in English is required and French would be a bonus.
• Analytical skills: Ability to analyse market trends, pricing and supplier performance.

Qualifications:

• 5 years? experience in the Building Material Procurement industry
• A degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• Understanding of Exports and Logistics would be advantageous
• Proven negotiation skills
• Successful track record of buying
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
