Reporting to the Nursing Programs Lead and working under general supervision, the Nurse Educator is responsible for providing effective instruction and assessment of nursing learners across diverse settings including classroom, simulation laboratory, acute care facilities, and community environments. This role facilitates the application of theoretical knowledge to clinical practice by delivering expert teaching, ongoing evaluation, and constructive feedback that support the development of learners’ clinical skills and professional judgment. The incumbent identifies individual learner strengths and areas for development, fostering a supportive, learner-centered environment that encourages critical thinking, intellectual growth, and professional development. The Nurse Educator integrates evidence-based practice into online theory delivery, clinical, and laboratory teaching activities to ensure alignment with curriculum standards and current nursing practice.

Close collaboration with the Nursing Programs Lead and other nursing program team members is essential to maintain curriculum integrity and ensure consistent instructional delivery across program components. Duties include: Prepare and facilitate online nursing theoretical courses using approved curriculum and instructional technologies. Teach and demonstrate nursing skills in laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. Prepare and orient learners for clinical rotations, including monitoring requirements, site policies, safety protocols, and expectations.

Support the development and communication of clinical learning objectives aligned with curriculum outcomes in online, lab and clinical settings. Observe, assess, and evaluate learners’ competencies in theory, lab, and clinical settings, providing feedback and documentation. Mentor and guide learners to support professional growth, confidence, and critical thinking skills. Support conflict resolution, address safety issues, and coach learners in challenging situations.

Maintain accurate records of learner’s progress, clinical hours, and performance evaluations. Manage laboratory operations including preparation, equipment maintenance, tracking inventory, and learner practice sessions. Collaborate with team members, preceptors, and academic teams to support learners’ success and curriculum development. Assist in developing and implementing learning plans for learners requiring additional support.

Ensure compliance with institutional, professional, and regulatory standards. Perform other duties as assigned by the Nursing Program Lead. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree from an accredited institution. Current active registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island (CRNMPEI).

Valid certificate in Basic Life Support – C (BLS-C). Certificate course or national certification in nursing specialty areas such as adult medical-surgical, emergency, or critical care nursing. Valid Prince Edward Island driver’s license. Demonstrated clinical competence in medical-surgical, emergency or critical care nursing practice.

Minimum of three years of recent, continuous clinical experience in the relevant nursing specialty as listed above. The successful candidate must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment.         Other Qualifications Demonstrated experience with educational methodologies and student assessment within clinical environments is preferred. Successful completion of a Clinical Instructor Certificate Course or the Nurse Educator certificate through CASN, or a commitment to obtain certification within one year of hire.

Proficiency in utilizing educational technologies and simulation laboratory equipment to facilitate optimal learning in both clinical and simulated settings. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal abilities. Sound judgment and the capacity to effectively prioritize competing demands while maintaining performance under pressure. Comprehensive knowledge and application of adult learning theories and pedagogical principles.

Evidence of ongoing professional development, demonstrates commitment to maintaining clinical and educational competency. Flexibility to adapt and perform effectively across diverse clinical settings and patient populations. Proven capability to coordinate, supervise, and implement learning activities in both clinical and laboratory contexts. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
