Position Summary Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at the Dawson Creek & District Hospital. In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) provides and coordinates the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients. Demonstrates nursing expertise and provides clinical leadership in evidence-based practices through direct care activities including nursing assessments, crisis intervention, patient and family education and health promotion activities. Sets priorities and assigns and delegates tasks to support staff. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers.

When applicable to the job, provides nursing services for clients before, during and after undergoing Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment both by working independently and as a member of an integrated care team. Shift Rotation/Hours of work: 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 (rotating) Qualfications • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a practicing Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse and two (2) years recent, related experience in mental health and addictions. Skills and Abilities: • Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide • nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions including • crisis intervention. • Knowledge of mental health illness and substance use treatment.

• Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects). • Counselling and group facilitation skills. • Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to mental health and • substance use practices. • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, families/care givers, the public, • medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team.

• Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients/families/care givers, • sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, including advocacy for special populations. • Ability to educate patients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and wellbeing. • Ability to organize and prioritize work. • Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.

• Ability to use factual information and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and • actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice. • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications. • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
