Are you passionate about working with young children in a faith-based, nurturing environment? St. Peter Baptist Church Child Development Center (SPBC CDC) is building a Substitute Pool for Teacher Assistants to support our classrooms as needed.

This flexible, on-call role is ideal for individuals who enjoy variety, meaningful work, and making a positive difference in children’s lives, while supporting Lead Teachers in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.

What You’ll Do
Classroom Support
- Assist Lead Teachers with age-appropriate lessons, activities, and daily routines.
-Help set up and maintain a clean, engaging, and safe classroom environment.
-Prepare materials and resources for daily learning activities.

Child Supervision & Engagement
- Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, and transitions.
- Interact with children in a warm, positive, and nurturing manner.
- Support positive behavior strategies and classroom expectations.

Individualized Support
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support as needed, including for children with special needs.
- Assist with observing and documenting children’s growth and development.
- Collaborate with Lead Teachers to address developmental or behavioral concerns.

Health & Safety
- Ensure children’s safety and well-being at all times.
- Assist with routine health and safety practices such as handwashing, diapering, and cleaning.
- Follow emergency procedures and center policies calmly and effectively.

Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with families.
- Support classroom and center events involving parents and caregivers.

Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and center leadership.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Follow all center policies, procedures, and licensing requirements.

What We’re Looking For
Required:
- At least 16 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to pass a background check
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with children
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
- Calm, reliable, and able to handle high-energy or high-pressure situations

Preferred:
- Coursework or training in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
- Previous experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting
- Knowledge of childcare licensing, health, and safety standards

Certifications (Required or Ability to Obtain)
- First Aid & CPR
- Medication Administration Training (MAT), if applicable
- Child Abuse Recognition & Intervention Training
